ClientConnector: connect via a local folder

The ClientConnector is eConnect's CLI tool for Windows: exchange invoices via a local folder. Also suitable for AI and automation.

The ClientConnector is the CLI tool (command-line tool) from eConnect for Windows. With this tool, you exchange invoices between eConnect and a local folder structure on your server. This is the solution for on-premise software that does not support a direct API connection or email integration. The ClientConnector monitors a folder on your server, sends new files to eConnect and retrieves incoming invoices. The CLI tool is also increasingly used for AI and automation scenarios: software or scripts that process invoices can easily communicate with eConnect through the local folder without building their own API integration.

When do you use the ClientConnector?

The ClientConnector (CLI tool) is intended for situations where a direct API connection or the Email Receiver is not possible, for example with legacy software that can only read and write files to a local folder. It is also a practical choice for AI applications and automation: scripts, workflows or AI systems that process invoices can communicate with eConnect through the local folder without developing their own API integration. The CLI tool is therefore a niche solution that is becoming increasingly important for on-premise and automated scenarios.

The tool requires a Professional subscription and a subscription key obtained through the eConnect sales department.

How does it work?

The ClientConnector works with a folder structure on your Windows server:

  • Send folder: invoices that your software places here are automatically sent to eConnect.
  • Receive folder: incoming invoices from eConnect are placed here, ready to be picked up by your software.

The tool runs as a background process and periodically checks the folders for new files.

Setup
Step 1: Create a connection in eConnect
  1. Log in to platform.econnect.eu.
  2. Go to Connections in your organization.
  3. Click the orange button (+) and choose New general connection.
  4. Select Local folder / CLI tool and confirm.
  5. Give the connection a name and click Generate keys.
  6. Copy the connection keys.
Step 2: Install the ClientConnector
  1. Download the ClientConnector tool through the eConnect platform or request it from support.
  2. Install the tool on the Windows server where your software runs.
  3. Configure the tool with the connection keys from step 1.
  4. Set up the local folders for sending and receiving.
Step 3: Configure your software

Configure your software package to write invoices to the send folder and read from the receive folder. The exact configuration depends on your software.

Supported software

The ClientConnector is used with, among others:

SoftwareDirectionSyntessSend + Receive

Other on-premise packages that can read and write files to a local folder are in principle also suitable.

Requirements
  • Windows server (the tool is not available for Linux or macOS)
  • Professional subscription with eConnect
  • Subscription key via the eConnect sales department
  • Local disk space for the folder structure

Important: The ClientConnector is a specific solution for on-premise integrations. For most software, a direct API connection, the Autopilot or the Email Receiver is a better choice. Discuss with eConnect which method best suits your situation.
