Download XML sample files to verify your e-invoice structure before sending.
When building an e-invoice integration, it is helpful to work with sample files. eConnect provides XML sample invoices for the most commonly used formats, so you can compare and test the structure of your own invoices before going live.
Below you will find the XML sample invoices per format. Each file is a valid, complete invoice that you can download directly and use as a reference.
The NLCIUS examples (Dutch implementation of EN 16931) contain invoices with all mandatory fields for Dutch e-invoicing. This is the most widely used format for domestic invoice exchange.
The BIS Billing V3 examples follow the Peppol standard profile used internationally. This format is suitable when you send invoices to recipients outside the Netherlands or to recipients who specifically expect BIS Billing V3.
An overview of available PartyIDs per country can be found at psb.econnect.eu/misc/partyIds.html.
The sample files are intended as a reference when developing or testing your e-invoice integration. A few practical applications:
Structure comparison. Open a sample file alongside your own generated invoice and compare the XML structure element by element. Pay attention to the order of elements, mandatory fields, and code lists used.
Validation test. Upload a sample file to the eConnect Validator to see what a valid invoice looks like in the validation report. Do the same with your own invoice and compare the results.
Send a test invoice. You can modify a sample file with your own organisation details and send it as a test invoice through the platform. This allows you to verify the entire chain from creation to delivery.
When building your own invoices, the following code lists are relevant:
Tip: the sample files are regularly updated when a new version of the BIS Billing specification is published. After a specification update, check that you are still working with the current version.
